The Democratic president previously said he would not pardon his son or commute his sentence after being convicted in two cases in the states of Delaware and California.
He added in a White House statement: “Today I signed a pardon for my son Hunter. From the day I took office I said I would not interfere in the decision-making process at the Department of Justice.” I kept my promise even as I watched my son being selectively and unfairly prosecuted.”
He continued: “I hope the American people understand why the father and the president made this decision.”
It has already been emphasized Biden However, he “will not pardon Hunter”, hinting that he will not reduce the sentence that the judiciary will impose on his son.
The decision comes just weeks before Hunter Biden is scheduled to be sentenced after his gun conviction and guilty plea to tax charges, and less than two months before President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House.
The decision is the culmination of a long-running legal case involving the president’s son, who publicly disclosed he was the subject of a federal investigation in December 2020, a month after his father Joe Biden won the 2020 election.
