Watch Tesla’s FSD v13.2 pull away from the park in a tricky situation

The latest version of Tesla’s Full Autonomous Driving (FSD) has started rolling out to owners over the past few days, and a number of early testers have shared the results of their first drives.

On Saturday, Tesla reposted a video from the Whole Mars catalog Xin which Omar uses FSD Supervised v13.2 to successfully reverse out of a tight street parking lot blocked by a UPS truck and carefully maneuver around the truck to exit the street. Omar says he didn’t expect the FSD model to successfully go outside with a delivery truck on its way, though the video shows it pretty clearly did—and it managed to keep track of an approaching Waymo truck that’s hard to track.

In a repost of the video, Tesla writes:

FSD Supervised 13.2 reverses to exit a parking lot blocked by a truck, then waits for oncoming traffic to stop before proceeding

All of this happens implicitly within a model that is trained on extensive data from similar real-world scenarios

In particular, Tesla’s latest FSD Supervised update allows the software to “end-to-end” model to take drivers from “park to park”, as Arek Sredzki, a member of the Autopilot team and head of the Actually Smart Summon (ASS) program recently highlighted. The release notes also note that version 13.2 includes integrated Unpark, Reverse and Park capabilities to allow this, and highlights the “hold to start” button for navigating from parking.

Tesla is betting on the future of unsupervised autonomy with the Cybercab, the Robovan

While Tesla’s FSD currently requires driver supervision and a willingness to regain control of the car at any time, the company also generates real-time driving data on which to train its cars’ neural network. As such, the company claims it has an edge over other companies like Google’s Waymo, and is betting big on the scalability of future autonomy with FSD.

Whether Tesla’s FSD will be left unattended is certainly up for debate, but the company’s recent unveiling of the two-seater driverless Cybercab shows that it expects that to happen someday. Tesla also first released FSD Supervised on the Cybertruck a few months ago and recently tests conducted by the company seem to hint at an upcoming release of semi-autonomous software for the Semi.
