The international auction house Autograph Auctions Europe, based in Malaga, South… SpainOn Friday, the sale price of the letter far exceeded the initial price of $120,000.
The auction house stated that the letter also attracted great interest from bidders from the United States and Asia.
The auction house explained that the Austrian composer’s letter to the German-born French publisher Jean-Georges Sieber, written in German, had actually disappeared. It was later found in the family archives.
Some researchers believe that the letter contains the first hints of Mozart’s famous “Haydn” quartets.
Also up for sale was an eight-page handwritten letter from Beatles member John Lennon to fellow musician Eric Clapton from 1971, in which he suggested forming a new “super band”. But the letter failed to find a buyer.
A spokesman for the auction house said: “There was interest, but in the end there was not enough to make an offer.
