Agency: Bashar al-Assad arrives in Russia and receives asylum

According to the TASS news agency, Russia granted asylum to Bashar al-Assad and his family.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced earlier on Sunday that the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad He decided to leave the country, renounce his position and ordered a peaceful transfer of power after negotiations with the parties to the conflict.

In a statement, the Ministry confirmed that Russia did not participate in the negotiations that led to this decision, but continues contacts with all Syrian opposition factions.

The Russian statement calls for the need to reject violence and work to resolve political issues in Syria through dialogue, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
