Alibaba’s $4,000 Range Rover is very cute, but not very capable

If you’re tired of commuting through a gated community through a golf cartmaybe we can interest you in a miniature version of the Range Rover. An e-commerce site available on Alibaba lists the fake for just $3,000.

Made by Nuoding New Energy Technology, it’s not just a mini Range Rover cheaper than a new golf cart, you get doors and windows too! And plenty of room for your golf bags – as long as you keep them in the back seat. As a team with Blondie supercar can confirm in his review: “It’s good from a distance, but it’s far from good when you start getting up close.”

Sergi Galliano and Nathan Bain take a tricked-out Range Rover and express equal parts surprise, giddiness and frustration as they unbox it. The New Energy version is much smaller than the actual Range Rover. While the real deal measures 198.9 inches long, 86.97 inches wide, and 73.62 inches tall, the Chinese copy measure 149.6 x 68.9 x 65.0 inches. So, more like a subcompact crossover than a clown car. Cheap and spacious?!

The imitator is being praised for its design accuracy, despite being alikely low-budget production. The Alibaba product carries over the silver exterior details from the Rover faithful, but also mimics the headlights and taillights in styling and lighting to a T. “I don’t know how it’s all legalby the way,” Sergi is surprised.

However, the grille is just a plastic panel that resembles the facial features of the iconic Range Rover. Still, cheap, roomy, and not ugly! Well, maybe except for the white protruding doorknobs that look like they came off a homemade fridge.

The quality of the materials and craftsmanship is truly absolute crap. When Sergi presses the hood of a similar Rover, it bends like a cheap aluminum pan overheated in the oven. Additionally, there are weather stripping throughout the exterior. On most (all?) cars, the black rubber is usually hidden, but on a trick it’s wrapped around the body of the car, along the seals and door jambs, like cheap masking tape. There are also slit panels that even Tesla would laugh.

The interior raises more questions than certainty. There is a large touchscreen display that can be controlled using the steering wheel controls. And the shifter console doesn’t look bad until you use it. Then it looks like the whole panel will come off. “It feels like it’s about to fall apart, but it works,” Nathan says.

How about performance? Well, it certainly isn’t equipped with a 523-horsepower twin-turbo V8. The mini replica is as powerful as a 3,500W electric stove, has a range of 90 kilometers (56 miles) and a top speed of 50 km/h (31 mph). The drag race the mock vs. real McCoy is more sad than funny. Nevertheless, the Chinese came out of a Range Rover EV earlier Land Rover did

Also, hey, did we mention that the imitation Rover is cheap? Three sets are available, and the price depends on the number of pieces in the set. The most expensive one Blondie supercar received, costs $3,393 and is listed as “1-4 units”. However, based on their review, it seems that the pseudo SUV has arrived in one piece. Even the steering wheel was attached. Shipping is extra, which Nathan says can add up to $10,000 depending on the country. The Alibaba listing says delivery about 10 days.

Ultimately, is this really a bad buy for a neighborhood cruise? (I cannot imagine this creature st.-leg in the US) It looks better than a golf cart, costs less, and carries more stuff. But perhaps the target audience is teenagers who have long since finished their toddler Powerful wheels but mom and dad won’t let them drive a real Range Rover just yet. I mean, why else was it equipped rainbow headlights?
