Apple sued for “spying on employees”

According to a lawsuit filed by Amar Bhakta in a state court ca Yesterday, Sunday, the company required employees to install software on the personal devices they use for work, giving Apple access to their email, photo libraries, health data, “smart home” data and other personal data.

Bhakta works in digital advertising at Apple.

The lawsuit also states that Apple It imposes a confidentiality policy that prohibits employees from discussing working conditions, including with the media, and also prohibits participation in whistleblowers protected by law.

Bakta, who has worked at Apple since 2020, says he has been barred from talking about his work in Internet podcasts and ordered to remove information about working conditions from his LinkedIn profile.

Apple said in a statement provided by a company spokesperson that the allegations in this case are unfounded and that employees are trained annually on their rights to discuss working conditions.

The company added: “At Apple, we focus on providing the best products and services in the world and work to protect the inventions our teams create for consumers.

Bakta’s lawyers are also representing two women who filed a lawsuit in June accusing Apple of systematically underpaying female employees in the company’s engineering, marketing and AppleCare departments. Apple says it’s committed to inclusion and equal pay.
