Chinese carmakers avoid EU tariffs on electric cars with hybrid cars

Chinese automakers are increasing hybrid exports to Europe to avoid European Union tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicle (EV) imports.

Euronews said that China’s leading automakers—BYD, SAIC, and Geely—have increased exports of hybrid vehicles to Europe. The increase in the export of hybrid cars came after the European Union approved the introduction of tariffs on Chinese-made electric cars. The tariffs went into effect at the end of October with a maximum of 45.3%.

Europe and China are negotiating a potential win-win tariff compromise. However, the question remains it’s decided.

China has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against EU tariffs on electric vehicles. Europe fought back against China’s WTO complaint.
