Ferrari powered Sbarro Super Eight for sale – fastest pizza delivery car


Switzerland is better known for chocolate and watches than cars, but it hasn’t always remained neutral in the automotive industry. We’ve seen several oddities spring up in this alpine country, including the International-Harvester Scout organization Monteverdi Safarisbut it is difficult to reach the top Sbarro Super Eight. This square hatchback is a one-off that combines the spirit of the Ferrari 308 GTB with the style of the 1980s, and you may be its next owner.

First off, who the hell is Sbarra? We’re not talking about a pizzeria. In terms of car design, Franco Sbarra is an Italian-born Swiss coachbuilder who has been creating one-off and rare cars for decades, including replicas of historic models like the Bugatti Royale and in-house cars. Red Super Eight of 1984, which is now on the list Bring the trailer falls into the latter category and is a sequel to 1982’s even wilder Super Twelve.

Sbarra decided to answer a question that has probably been asked at least a few times: what, when Ferrari built a hot hatch? Let’s find out. Its team took out a 3.0-liter four-valve V8 and a five-speed manual transmission 308 GTBshortened the chassis of the coupe and covered everything with a muscular fiberglass body. All styling elements that screamed “FAST!” in the 1980s are considered, including a grille that covers the headlights, a front splitter, numerous air vents and pierced wheel arches. BBS wheels add the finishing touch to the look.

The interior of the 308 GTB has been carried over, including sports seats and a gear shifter, but the steering wheel has a Sbarro look. The attention to detail is impressive, as Sbarro focused more on elegance and luxury than performance when developing the Super Eight. There’s not much boot space, though: lift the rear window and you’ll see a spare wheel attached to the engine cover with four leather straps. I suppose you could put your groceries around or behind the wheel, but they’ll be so close to the V8 that I’ll be worried about cooking a full meal on the way back from the shop.

So we have a hatchback of wonderful proportions with a Ferrari V8 engine and a cool interior. And supposedly the only one in the world. Bring the trailer explains that the Super Eight was shown at the 1984 Geneva Motor Show, purchased by industrialist Bernd Grohe (who helped finance the project), sent to the Sbarro Museum and later sold to a number of private owners. The V8 is said to run well, and the listing notes a few visual flaws (including chips), but they’re pretty minor. The odometer reads about 18,647 miles, although the actual mileage is unknown.

It’s hard to rate a one-off car like the Sbarro Super Eight. Bidding at the time of writing is $62,500 with about a week left in the auction. There is a reserve, so applications must be cleared before this boxy hatchback finds a new home. This cool, obscure piece of Swiss automotive history is sold with Dutch registration and is based in Paris, France, but importing it here will be pretty easy because it’s over 25 years old.

For one thing, the one-off status makes this Super Eight even more desirable. There is literally no other like it. On the other hand, imagine if Sbarro built, say, 5,000 of these. I like the idea of ​​a WRC-spec Super Eight with a period-appropriate livery, but even without the racing pedigree, the model would undoubtedly stand out as the holy grail of 1980s hot hatches. “Oh, you have Renault 5 turbo? Cute! Check it out.”
