Fetterman slams liberal magazine for calling killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO ‘inevitable’

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa. didn’t hold back as he went into New York magazine for an article suggesting that the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was “inevitable” over outrage over denied insurance claims.

“There is no shortage of e—-s in the 2024 election or this assassination,” the Pennsylvania senator wrote in X post on Saturday.

“The public execution of an innocent man and father of two is indefensible, not ‘inevitable.’ Forgiving and rooting for this says more about YOU than your health insurance status,” he added.

Thompson was killed outside a Manhattan hotel on his way to a company conference Wednesday morning, prompting a now days-long investigation as the suspect remains on the run.

The motive for the assassination remains unclear, although shell casings were found left at the crime scene with the words “discard”, “reject” and “defend” written on them – a possible reference to the book “Delay, refuse, defend: Why insurance companies don’t pay claims and what you can do about it.

Reaction to Thompson’s death has poured out across the Internet and media, with speculation of outrage over the denial of coverage that may have inspired the event, including a New York magazine article titled “The shooting that was inevitable. Our political system is collapsing. Now he is killed.”

“Christopher McNaughton needed care for his ulcerative colitis, which had already left him with arthritis, diarrhea, fatigue and blood clots that could kill him. The disease was one problem; his insurance company, UnitedHealthcare, soon turned out to be another “, the article began, posing a forum for discussion of health problems that have remained unresolved as a result of rejected or poor reporting.

The article goes on to cite examples of less-than-empathetic commentary, including one X post that read: “Today we mourn the shooting death of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson… wait, sorry – today we mourn the death of 68,000 Americans who die needlessly every year to make insurance executives like Brian Thompson multimillionaires.”

On the note of words written on the shellswriter Sarah Jones suggested that it was “obvious” that the gunman intended to send a “public message”, adding that “some seem open to it”.

Commentators on Fetterman’s flamboyance largely agreed with his sentiments, with multiple users thanks to him to call the socket.

Fox News Digital reached out to New York magazine for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
