Some new cars don’t bother themselves rear wiper blade. Then others like Polar star 4don’t bother with the rear window. Now we can add Porsche 911 The GT3 RS made the short list of cars that don’t like visibility. The latest Manthey Kit completely replaces the rear glass with a carbon fiber finish, among other performance improvements.
The 911 GT3 RS is a street-legal tracked weapon. But it’s also good for regular things like, you know, transfer to the airport. Between the track and the tarmac, if you’re just thirsty compressive force all the time Porsche There’s a new add-on package just for you.
The Manthey kit is more than a bolt-on kit with massive rear wingthough he has one of those too. Developed by the Porsche Development Center in Weisach and Manthey Racing in Mewspath, the latter Manthey kit the engineering collaboration adds extensive aerodynamics, braking and suspension components to the already capable 911 GT3 RS.
The most noticeable visual changes are in the rear. As an unwritten requirement of every performance kit, a large DRS carbon fiber wing, fitted with equally large end plates, is reinforced at the rear. If you’re worried about the front sight line from the sun spoiler, phew. Don’t worry about it.
everything you’ll be locked behind and dutifully forgotten because the rear window has been replaced with a shark fin-mounted carbon panel for cornering stability. In any case, glass is heavy. The carbon fiber wrap is 25 percent lighter, so the weight savings will do wonders for fuel efficiency (and speed).
There is no shortage of carbon fiber and fins in the Manthey kit. Additional features include six more ribs on the roof, a wider rear diffuser with, you guessed it, longer carbon ribs and carbon aero disc caps for the rear wheels. Up front, there are additional air ducts, a new front spoiler lip with carbon fiber rods, and redesigned Gurney fenders for the wheel arches.
In total, the optimized airflow results in more than 1,000 kg (2,204 lb) of downforce at 285 km/h (177 mph) without increasing drag. The standard 992 GT3 RS produces 860 kg (1,895 lb) at these speeds, which is staggering in itself. But perfect for turning at medium to high speed.
Of course there is more. The suspension was tuned with downforce in mind. Semi-active coilover springs have been increased by 30 percent at the front and 15 percent at the rear. New two-valve shock absorbers with independent control and additional sensors (one on each wheel and three on the body) help the new control unit in the automatic adjustment of the shock absorbers.
We can’t forget the brakes. The Manthey kit features steel jacketed brake lines that add a more direct pedal feel as well as faster response times. For cars equipped with Porsche ceramic composite brakes, racing brake pads are offered as an option.
The 911 GT3 RS Manthey Kit is available to order now, with deliveries to the European and UK markets starting in January, and to other markets in March. US pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but in the UK the Manthey Kit starts at £99,999, or $125,357 USD at today’s exchange rates. And that’s on top of the 911 GT3 RS’s starting price of $244,995 (including destination tax and gas tax). At least the Manthey kit doesn’t void the car’s warranty.
