Negotiations in Cairo: Fatah and Hamas delegations left “without signatures”

The source revealed that Hamas is seeking to ensure the continuity of its administrative and military staff, as well as receiving salaries from a committee linked to the Palestinian Authority.

On the other hand, the Palestinian Authority wants the Gaza Strip to be governed by an independent support committee linked to an independent Palestinian government, without factional quotas in administration and security.

Earlier, a Palestinian source close to the negotiations in Cairo explained to Agence France-Presse that the wording of the draft agreement “is based on the Egyptian proposal and represents a necessary preliminary step to pave the way for an agreement.” cease fire“.

According to the draft agreement, the board “will manage the affairs of the Gaza Strip and its authority will be the Palestinian government and will be responsible for all areas: health, economy, education, agriculture, services, humanitarian aid and dealing with the consequences of war and reconstruction.”

The draft states that the committee will consist of 10 to 15 members of “qualified national figures known for their integrity, experience and transparency.”

She indicated that the work of the committee begins “after a meeting is held for all Palestinian factions to reach a final agreement on its formation in Cairo at the invitation of the President of the State of Palestine.”

The committee is also responsible for “the operation of ports in the Gaza Strip with the Israeli side and the re-operation of the Rafah port” between Gaza and Egypt, according to a 2005 agreement between them. Israel And the Palestinian Authority, and foresees the operation of the Rafah crossing, and the presence of European observers on the Palestinian side of the crossing.

Movement leader Khalil al-Haiyya led the Hamas delegation to Cairo, while Fatah leader Azzam al-Ahmad headed his movement’s delegation.
