At the opening of the 22nd edition Doha Forumhe said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Al-Assad “has not taken this opportunity to start communication and rebuilding relations with his people, and we have not seen any serious movement regarding the return of refugees or reconciliation with his people.”
The Qatari official added that the world was “surprised” by the rapid progress following a surprise attack by a coalition of opposition factions in Syria, and warned that “this situation could develop and become more dangerous”, threatening a return to “previous cycles of violence”.
He added that the situation in Syria is developing and could become more dangerous.
He pointed out that the success of the experience of the temporary truce in Lebanon confirms the possibility of the success of diplomatic work, noting that the world is at a fateful crossroads, whether it surrenders to the cycle of violence or invents new methods and solutions.
He added that such an outcome would “damage and destroy what is left of Syria, if there is no sense of urgency to start putting a political framework for what is happening there … to find a political solution.”
The arrival of the foreign ministers of Turkey, Iran and Russia is expected Doha Saturday for talks about Syria.
