Retired New York City Police Department (NIPD) A lieutenant and former NIPD commander sheds light on the manhunt for the suspect who killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson and what investigators are doing to find him.
“He’s not a professional, but he’s calculated. He obviously planned this well as well. He planned his escape route, he planned everything beforehand,” Joe Cardinale told Fox News Digital.
Cardinale added that the fact that the shooter left bullets behind and left messages on them, such as “dismiss,” makes him think it could be someone involved in the civil suit with UnitedHealthcare, or at least connected, which this is not coincidence or “wrong place, wrong time” situation.
The words “reject”, “reject” and “defend” were written on the live bullets and shell casings left behind by the assassin after the shooting.

“I’m still not convinced that it was someone who happened to be at his place that morning.” I think he had intimate knowledge of where Mr. Thompson would be at that hour. “How did he get that? That’s the big million-dollar question right now,” Cardinale said. “He’s leaving these traces, he’s throwing them away, he planned it from the beginning.”
Cardinale said he’s seen actions like these from past criminals who he says are arrogant and feel like they’re “smarter than the police.”
“They want to commit the perfect crime, but they do things to let them know it’s me.” I mean, he showed his face, he had to know there was a camera there and he showed his face. “Maybe it was just for that flirty moment they were talking about, but I even said that’s someone I’d like to talk to because she was actually talking to him, the hostel clerk,” Cardinale said when talking about the person . interest shows its face in the lobby of a Manhattan hostel.

Thompson’s wife, Paulette, also said her husband received death threats.
“There were some threats,” said Thompson’s wife NBC News“Basically, I don’t know, lack of (health) care? I don’t know the details. I just know that he said some people threatened him.”
When asked why the NIPD does not publish name of person of interest, Cardinale said that the public needs to know and that there are certain elements of this case right now that they don’t need to know.
“They give as much as they can without jeopardizing the case which when caught should move forward and get a verdict. So they can’t, just to bring it to the public, ruin their case before it’s even formed,” Cardinale said.
He added that the authorities know that the person of interest is watching and listening and knows everything that is happening at the moment and is most likely even “fascinated” by all the attention he is getting.

He praised the cardinals NIPD and FBI and said that they are doing everything right in this investigation and that they take every tip seriously.
“I’m sure tips are coming in because somebody, this man’s face, is on a national platform right now through all the media, and somebody has to recognize this person, and he (person of interest) has to know that. He has to know that he left those marks.” and I think that will be when he gets caught, that will be his moment in the sun.
The manhunt has now spread to more states and entered its fifth day on Sunday.

The FBI let it go new pictures of a person of interest on Sunday and is now offering up to a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
