Statement by Iraq, Syria and Iran regarding the development of the situation in Syria



The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a joint statement on the occasion of the meeting stating:

  • The ministers of foreign affairs of the Republic met Iraq The Syrian Arab Republic and the Republic of Iran at the headquarters of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Baghdad on December 6, 2024.
  • The meeting discussed the challenges facing the region in general and recent security developments in Syria.
  • The ministers presented positions that focus on the seriousness of the events in Syria, their sensitivity for all parties in the region and the possibility of expanding their dimensions, which will pose a serious danger to the three countries and threaten the security of their people and the entire region.

  • The participants condemned terrorism in all forms and manifestations classified by the Security Council and emphasized collective action to oppose it.
  • The ministers condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks on Syria As in Gaza and Lebanon.
  • It was agreed on the necessity of continued consultation and coordination between the three countries in order to monitor these developments and prepare for any developments in the coming days.
  • Respect for the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria was emphasized.
  • The ministers emphasize that the threat to Syria’s security represents a general danger to the stability of the entire region and that there is no choice but to cooperate, coordinate and continue diplomatic consultations in order to eliminate all risks of escalation in the region.
  • The need to mobilize all Arab, regional and international efforts in order to achieve peaceful solutions to the challenges facing the region in general was emphasized.Syria Especially.
