Sudan.. The ring of hunger is widening, and the price explosion is limiting the “takaya”

This comes amid major difficulties faced by charity kitchens known as “Hospices“, which provides daily meals to hundreds of thousands of people stuck in combat zones, where security and financial conditions have reduced 80 percent of activities.

United Nations estimates show that more than 26 million Sudanese face food insecurity.

The 19 months of fighting led to great destruction in agricultural projects and food production institutions, including factories, bakeries and others. The food crisis has been further exacerbated with 60 percent of Sudanese losing their sources of income.

In light of the great difficulty in securing adequate food, many displaced persons and those stuck in combat zones resort to harsh measures, such as limiting themselves to one meal a day or eating paltry meals that have no nutritional value.

A complex crisis
As millions of Sudanese face the threat of severe food insecurity, the hunger crisis is emerging as the biggest threat that is pushing the country to the brink of collapse as the vicious cycle of violence continues.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, one in two people in Sudan is in need of humanitarian assistance.

Children bear the brunt of this devastating crisis, and hunger threatens the lives of almost 15 percent of the estimated 20 million inhabitants.

World Vision said it is deeply concerned about the profound long-term effects of hunger and food insecurity on the physical and cognitive development of Sudanese children.
