Tesla China wholesaled 78,856 vehicles in November 2024: CPCA

Data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed that Tesla China wholesaled 78,856 vehicles in November 2024. These numbers are 15.49% higher than the 68,280 vehicles that Tesla China wholesaled in October 2024. They also represent a decrease of 4.34% compared to the 82,432 vehicles that were wholesaled in November 2023.

Tesla China’s wholesale results for the previous month include both cars that were sold overseas and exported to foreign territories. In November, however, Tesla China appears to have focused much of its efforts on the domestic market. According to local estimates, about 73,000 of the 78,856 cars wholesaled last month were sold to domestic customers. CPCA has yet to release data on Tesla China’s exports last month.

As noted in the message from Notice of CNEVTesla China appears to have wholesaled 822,894 vehicles between January and November. This was down 3.6% year-on-year, although this was likely affected by the company’s lower exports last month. In its domestic market, Tesla China’s performance is already beating 2023 numbers, with local sales up 7.1% year-on-year.

Most of Tesla China sales in the country consists of the Model 3 sedan and the Model Y crossover. While the Model 3 has been updated, the Model Y is still sold mostly in its original iteration. Speculation, however, suggests that Tesla China is working on launching a facelifted Model Y variant, reportedly dubbed the ‘Juniper’, early next year. Sightings of covered Model Ys around the world suggest that an update to the best-selling all-electric crossover could indeed be in the works.

Elon Musk has said he believes Tesla’s global shipments in 2024 could top 2023’s record numbers. For Tesla to meet this ambitious goal, it would need to deliver a record 515,000 vehicles worldwide in this fourth quarter. China, one of Tesla’s biggest markets, could play a big role in determining whether the electric car maker is able to achieve the set goals by 2024 or not.
