The next-generation 2026 Hyundai Palisade is square on the outside and gorgeous on the inside

Hyundai is not ready to show most of the world what the new, second generation is all about Palisade The SUV still looks personal. However, it has shared renderings of its new seven-seater in Korea, and it’s quite different from before.

With this new generation Palisade, Hyundai went big on square. Calling it a two-box design is almost literal, as it looks like one big box for the passenger compartment connected to another big box that houses the engine. Hyundai seems to have studied at Chevy’s “Nothing But Rulers” school of design.

The front end is massive, with a huge horizontal grille flanked by clusters of horizontal headlights. It’s nice that the grille slats look like they extend into the headlights, but the amount of right angles seems excessive. Again, given how popular sharp, lean SUVs are Tahoe are in the United States, I think Hyundai will be selling a boatload of them here.

Inside, Hyundai wants the Palisade to feel like a “Premium Living Space,” so its interior design was inspired by living room furniture. The dashboard dips at the edges, giving it a chunky, soft vibe, and the screens are housed in the dash rather than stuck on top. I appreciate the latter as it prevents the screens from obscuring the forward view.

Interestingly, in Korea, the Palisade can be a nine-seater. When so equipped, the front center armrest can become a seat, giving him a front row seat as in Land Rover Defender. With the second row equipped with a bench instead of two captain’s chairs, making three rows of three seats. It’s unclear if this option will be available in North America, as it appears to be offered in Korea to allow Palisade owners to drive in bus lanes and even register them as commercial vehicles to get tax benefits.

Hyundai has not said when it plans to bring the new Palisade to North America, what powertrain options it will have, or how much it will cost when it arrives here. But at least now customers have an idea of what to expect when it comes time to rent.
