On December 1, 2024, the Board of Directors of Stelantis NV accepted the resignation of Carlos Tavares from the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company.

“The success of Stellantis since its inception is based on the perfect alignment between the reference shareholders, the Board of Directors and the CEO. However, different views have emerged in recent weeks, leading to today’s decision by the Board and the CEO.” commented Henri de Castries, Senior Independent Director of Stellantis.

Tavares’ resignation was effective immediately. Stellantis has already started the process of appointing a new permanent CEO. A special committee of the board will manage the appointment of a new CEO of Stellantis. A special committee is expected to appoint the new CEO by the first half of 2025. An executive committee chaired by John Elkann will be in place until Stellantis NV appoints a new CEO.

“We thank Carlos for his years of dedicated service and the role he played in establishing Stellantis, in addition to the previous turnarounds at PSA and Opel, setting us on the path to becoming a global leader in our industry.

I look forward to working with our new Interim Executive Committee, with the support of all our Stellantis colleagues, as we complete the process of appointing our new CEO. Together, we will ensure the continued deployment of the company’s strategy in the long-term interests of Stellantis and all of its stakeholders,” commented John Elkan, Chairman of the Board.
