The United States is calling on its citizens to leave Syria “immediately”.

The ministry said in its statement, which was reported by Reuters: “The Department of Foreign Affairs urges American citizens to leave Syria Now that business travel options are available in… Damascus“.

She explained that citizens who choose to stay or are unable to leave must prepare contingency plans to deal with critical situations and be prepared to evacuate for extended periods of time if necessary.

The warning comes after the progress made by the armed factions on the ground, as they announced their full control of the city of Daraa at dawn on Saturday.
