The Strausberg-Erkner Water Association (WSE) has drafted a water supply agreement for the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin.
The project, which still has to be approved by Tesla, could change the dynamics of Giga Berlin’s water supply and wastewater.
Major updates:
On Wednesday, the VBF finalized a draft of a new contract for Tesla. This was confirmed by Thomas Krieger, chairman of the association and mayor of Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf. rbb24.
While the exact terms are still under wraps, the new project reportedly has a reduce Tesla’s water liability and introduces new wastewater management regulations. Tesla, for its part, offered to release 377,000 cubic meters of water in the project contract.
The draft will now be sent to Tesla for review. If Tesla reneges on the terms or if further adjustments are needed, the parties could find themselves back at the negotiating table.
What they say:
“We have sharpened our position.I think Tesla should live well with the contract,” Krieger said rbb24. He is also hoping for a positive signal from Tesla before Christmas.
Tesla expressed concern about not being involved in the final settings of the draft contract “because we were not informed of further adjustments and were not discussed in our presence,” a company spokesman said.
Important information:
The Tesla already uses much less water than originally planned, and the Giga Berlin uses more half as much water as the neighboring asparagus farm. This was made possible by the Giga Berlin sewage treatment plant, one of the largest and most modern in Germany.
Thanks to the fact that Giga Berlin generates less production waste water sanitary and domestic wastewater is more concentrated. This means it cannot be diluted and discharged into the WSE sewer system. This also causes the Giga Berlin discharge parameters to be exceeded.
The WSE planned to discuss the fate of the contract at the association’s next meeting, potentially setting the stage for another round of negotiations if necessary.
