Two ships collided in South Korea, six people died



South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported that six people were among the eight crew members of the 29-tonne fishing vessel “Jumgwang” when it collided with a 456-tonne cargo ship and capsized in waters near the city of Jeonju, about 270 kilometers southeast. Civilat 5:43 a.m. today, Monday, local time (8:43 p.m. Sunday, GMT).

The search for the remaining two people is still ongoing.

The authorities stated that ten people were on board the cargo ship, but none of them were injured, and the ship suffered no visible damage.

The Coast Guard sent patrol boats, rescue boats and helicopters to the scene of the accident, and requested the support of the Ministry Oceans Navy, Korean Navy and fire authorities.

South Korean Prime Minister Han Duk-soo earlier ordered an emergency rescue operation.
