There’s a fine line between public road entertainment and social sharing – just ask the next Mustang owner you see in Cars and Coffee. This time it’s not a Mustang, but a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, and a tragedy close to it narrowly avoided serious consequences.
Nicknamed Hulk owner’s Instagram accountthis green SUV is no ordinary Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. It appears to have a long list of performance modifications, including a 426cc (7.0-liter) V8, a Whipple supercharger, and a tune. Its power is from 1000 to 1300 horsepower. For context, standard Grand Cherokee Trackhawk uses a 6.2-liter V8 supercharged to 707 horsepower.
With great power comes great responsibility—and, in this case, big brakes. Posted by Instagram user Mr.gotdamnit_, short video shows the Hulk backing out of a driveway, rolling forward several feet, revving his V8 and careening down Tower Avenue in a Sacramento industrial park. So far so good. But seconds later, the rear end loses traction and sends the nose of the speeding Trackhawk into a parked row of cars and a utility pole.
The driver swerves, tires squeal, and the Jeep screeches to a stop on the left side of the road. We wonder what people working in nearby body shops thought after watching this scene. At least the wreckage wouldn’t have to be towed very far. Of course, things could have ended much worse.
It looks like the V8’s massive power overloaded the rear wheels, which are wearing street-legal Mickey Thompson ET Street R tires, and caused the Jeep to slide. For one thing, testing the straight-line acceleration of a heavily modified SUV on a small public road is never a good idea, and we bet the driver didn’t return to square one for a second try after such a close call. On the other hand… damn what a save!
